This series, Transit, uses schematic maps as a metaphor for networks, direction and belonging – for developing a personal route through life. Visually, the pieces take their cue from Harry Beck’s famous London Underground map of 1933. Conceptually, they explore ideas of connection and how jewellery might represent the networks that link people and places. On the gallery wall, the pieces have a graphic quality and appear to be rigid, but when worn they move freely with the body through pivoting connections made with titanium ball bearings.
